I recently visited Frankfurt, Germany for the International Gift Fair Ambiente.  This is the world’s largest fair dedicated to the gift and home accessory market.  There are 11 halls each with one to 5 levels each of exhibition.  It is truly massive.

Here I meet my existing suppliers from across the globe, as well as searching out new treasures to add to our assortments.  With the existing vendors, we discuss new ideas and concepts.  This year I was particularly curious to find new suppliers which could lend a completely new cultural experience.  I was drawn to the Japanese aesthetic, where I found master glass makers and incredible printmakers using age old techniques normally not seen in America.  Also, I was drawn to some exquisite Russian silversmiths, using Faberge inspired techniques.  From Turkey, I found great leather makers that could put together interesting combinations of coasters and trays, at very affordable prices.  From Sweden, I found fabulous environmentally friendly coasters and trays made of birchwood, which could be printed back and front.  Thus the image could reflect the event, and the back could reflect/tell the message, again at very affordable prices.  Also some fun ideas.

All in all, it was a very successful visit.  Lots of new ideas to share with you, when thinking about your special gift project!
